 gretas schwester // monkind

you simply have to love gretas schwester - i certainly do. the mind and heart behind the bright and beautifully painted illustrations of this young berlin label is sarah neuendorf. her watercolour world is inhabited by whales and lions, flowers and deserts. i like its vibrant colours, its lightness and playfullness. you can sense her love and thoughts in every little detail.

gretas schwester is to be found at crellestrasse in berlin schöneberg - sharing a shop with monkind, whose owner valeria not only was so nice to let me take photos of their beautiful place but also designs organic children's wear printed with the sweetest patterns.

 winter's eve

when the world stops for snow what could there be more comforting
than sitting inside, drinking hot tea and training your crafting skills.

 stijl design markt

here you can see the tote bag i bought at the stijl design markt in nuremberg some while ago. it was made by chantal rasquin.

i thought it would be nice not to wait until the last minute but to do some early christmas shopping this year - i ended up realizing that this year won't be an exception at all.

but while doing so i discovered some new enterprises and people whose steps i like to follow in the future, such as kulør, samesame and eva wünsch. and i learned of an online marketplace for handmade products where i might find some presents after all. it is called selekkt.com.

 ami naito

i came across this beautiful paper installation in a munich backyard the other day. it's called "51.600mm paper wave" and was made by ami naito, a japanese-born artist, now based in munich.

 triangles

...sitting on the floor, printing tote bags (above you can see one i did some while ago) while listening to rumours by fleetwood mac, one of my favourite albums.

 jewellery

i've been to many markets lately and saw a lot of handmade bracelets, earrings and necklaces. i kind of wanted to see if i was able to make my own jewellery and so i spent quite a lot of time searching through crafts stores till i had a starter kit. these are my first results!

 airplants

on the day that i spent in erlangen, i also went to the mädchenflohmarkt, a fleamarket made by girls for girls. the idea is quite nice. you can stroll around around, listen to good music, buy cupcakes and drink lemonade in a little café decorated with fresh flowers. that day the fleamarket was quite packed and me and my cousin left early, but there was one market stand, that impressed me quite much because of the strange and beautiful looking plants you could buy there – airplants. back home i instantly knotted some macrame nets and since then my new airplants adorn my window.

you can find a nice site about airplants here.

 geometric

last weekend i was looking for a birthday present for an old friend of mine at a store called fachmarie in nuremberg. of course i ended up buying something else instead... i'm very much into patterns and so these neon coloured papers by rie elise larsen caught my eye immediatley. they looked quite pretty wrapped around the little initial rings i finally got for my friend!

 aortica

i'm travelling a lot by train lately and so i always need something nice to read. i bought the auckland issue of the aortica magazine in a station bookshop and never put it down ever since. the days are cold and dark right now and looking through the wonderful pictures of new zealand's designers and artists makes me want to buy a flying ticket to the other side of this world straight away...

 luiban

a few weeks ago a stumbled upon a nice online store called 'luiban'. it sells pretty and unusual stationary products like geometric stickers, scrapbooks by the great label paperways or envelopes by le typographe that you rarley get anywhere else.

as i love patterns i couldn't resist and ordered a bunch of wrapping papers and masking tape aswell as a photo album - the first one in a couple of years. (since i'm using a digital camera i really missed the feeling of holding photos in my hand and going through them one by one,
so i started printing out my photos again.) let's see how long it takes till i cannot help myself visiting luiban again in order to look through all their little treasures.
